Varmints

Summary

This short film starts with the scene where a small creature is living in nature with its friends. They seem really happy. Suddenly a group of black creatures appears and they start to invade nature. All the plants are destroyed except the twig the small creature barely saved. The small creature starts living in a dark city with the black creatures. He planted the twig in a flowerpot and took good care of it. A white glowing seeds emerge from the twig and float away. The environment gets worse and worse and the small creature and the black creatures start to get sick and the twig stats to wither. Suddenly the white seed appears floating in the air. It was larger than it first emerged. It took all the small creatures away. The small creature with the twig tried to hold on to the seed, but it trips and passes away. The tentacle grows from the seed and takes the unconscious small creature away. When the small creature wakes up it found itself inside the seed and reunites other small creatures.

Opinion

I think that this short film criticizes humans trying to invade nature and destruct the environment. The small creature symbolizes the creature that lost their residence because of human. The black creature symbolizes humans invading nature. I noticed that two creatures have different expressions on their faces. The small creatures are very expressive, but on the other hand, the black creatures have no expression on their faces and are looking down the whole time. I think these differences show the ruthlessness of humans. I also noticed that after the black creatures invaded nature the air was polluted and there were many garbages. I think that this depiction is related to the air pollution caused by human activity due to the invasion to nature. In the last scene the city has deteriorated and all the black creatures were gone. This ending shows that invading nature has bad effects on not only animals but also on humans. After watching this short film, I realized that what people call varmints aren't really harmful, but instead human is the real varmints that are trying to destroy the environment. This short film teaches us that humans must understand that animals come down to village and eat crops because humans are taking away their residences.
