Summary
Stanley Pickle is an eccentric man who excels at mechanizing the things around him to move with springs. He never goes outside and lives surrounded by machines, but he is attracted to a girl outside his house. When she is sad that her beloved bird has died, Stanley Pickle mechanizes the bird and shows it to her, but she is frightened and runs away. This makes Stanley Pickle realize the loneliness and strangeness of the world he lives in, and finally he goes out into the outside world.
My opinion
I think the film is about the power of creativity and the change that genuine human connections can bring. As Stanley lives a contented life with his clockwork family, we can see that his imagination and creativity enrich his isolated life. However, an incident with a girl he likes leads him to eventually abandon that life and go out into the outside world, which I think shows that he longs for genuine human interaction. His brief interaction with the girl overturns his ideas about what he thought was normal life and has a very important influence on him making a big decision. This movie also taught me that it is other people who can make people realize that what they perceive as normal is not actually normal.
