varmints

 summary

the story is set in a world that seems to be in the future. The varmint’s nice day outside is ruined by bleak building that comes in his direction, settling down in front of him, and killing all of the nature around them. With no where else to go, the varmint reluctantly goes into the new town, and finding a place to stay and to work. While all of the varmints that live in the town start to die of depression or exhaustion, the creature is able to stay positive because of the piece of a tree that he was able to save in the nick of time. He plants the tree and waters it by collecting rain water on the roof of his own device. He continues to live this way until one day their routine is ruined by huge blobs in the sky. The arms of the forging creature grab varmints that are alive and takes it in. After the varmint is also taken in, he reunites with nature, a vast greenery in front of him.

discussion that the makers want the veiwers to have

-the demolition of nature due to humanity

-how the hardships of small creature go unnoticed

-what can save these creatures/that it isn’t too late to help now

I interpreted the story to be about how humans are taking habitats away from creatures due to their selfish greed. Varmints have to grow to learn to live within the human society or scurry off to find a new home. The ending is really confusing, as it is open ended and does not provide any explanation. I took it as the large blobs with arms to be parts of Mother Nature. She is taking back her children and helping them get back home. The downfall of humanity and nature taking their rightful place is represented as the buildings crumbling. The octopus-like animals seem to be Mother Nature as they handle the varmints with care, cradling them softly.
